(2008) This year, National Heimlich Maneuver Week was celebrated April 13-19. In honor of the week, Dr. Henry Heimlich, creator of the Heimlich Maneuver, visited Cincinnati Christian School in Fairfield, Ohio, on Friday, April 18, 2008. In his presentation for the school children, Dr. Heimlich illustrated the technique that has saved hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide.

Before the Heimlich Manuever was introduced in 1974, choking was the sixth most common cause of accidental death in the United States. Since its introduction, this simple procedure has saved the lives of more than 100,000 people in the U.S. and thousands more worldwide.
